our story

the seeds for wilson plant co. were planted in 1979. over years of nurturing through seasons of growth & change, this 100% women-owned small business blossomed into kentucky’s largest garden center and nursery with two locations across the bluegrass.

deeply rooted in the heart of kentucky, the flagship location in frankfort serves as a destination with an on-site garden-to-table restaurant, sage garden cafe, featuring fresh & local fare, a native nursery and botanical garden highlighted by the butterfly greenhouse & lola children’s gardens, and a floral design studio, the flower child botanical loft.

the story of us wouldn’t be complete without raising a big green “thumbs up” to charlie wilson, whose passion for horticulture, grand vision, relentless grit, keen business savvy, & roguish daring spirit laid the foundations for wilson plant co. as you know it today. though we’ve been missing charlie since 2003, his lively energy & drive are still with us.
